The chart shows the relative size of the BIS reporting banks' bilateral cross-border claims or liabilities on all counterparties resident in the set of selected countries. See Table 6.2.

How to use the interactive chart

• Change parameters in the “Options” menu (top left-hand corner of the page) to modify the data dimensions and/or select different groups of reporting countries and counterparty countries (CPCs).
• Hover (or tap and hold on your touchscreen) on the chart for more information, eg bilateral country positions and changes between two quarters.
• Click (or tap on your touchscreen) the node on the wheel perimeter to open a data table on the country positions.
• Click the link between two nodes to open a time series chart of the bilateral position.

Notes

The BIS locational banking statistics (LBS) are reported by 48 reporting countries. The BIS publishes the bilateral data reported by 31 countries. Data reported by 17 countries – Bahamas, Bahrain, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, China, Curaçao, Cyprus, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Norway, Panama, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Turkey – are included in the global totals, but are not shown in the bilateral positions. A node with the code 5Q has been included to show the aggregate of these 17 countries with non-public data plus any data from the 31 countries with public data that have been suppressed for confidentiality reasons.
